Frequently asked questions
Is this English proficiency test free?
Yes, completely free. No sign-up, no email, no payment. Take it as many times as you like.
How is this different from the English Level Test?
The level test is a quick 5-minute check with 15 questions plus speaking. This proficiency test is more comprehensive — 40 questions across grammar, vocabulary, reading comprehension, and use of English — giving you a deeper understanding of your strengths and weaknesses.
What does the test cover?
The test has four sections: Grammar (sentence structure and tenses), Vocabulary (word meaning and collocations), Reading Comprehension (understanding passages), and Use of English (practical language skills). Each section tests you from beginner to advanced.
What do the CEFR levels A1–C2 mean?
CEFR is the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. A1 is Beginner, A2 is Elementary, B1 is Intermediate, B2 is Upper Intermediate, C1 is Advanced, and C2 is Mastery. Most universities require B2 or higher.
How accurate is this proficiency test?
This is a self-assessment tool that gives a reliable estimate of your CEFR level. It is not an official certification. For certified results, take an accredited exam such as IELTS, TOEFL, Cambridge English, or Duolingo English Test.
Can I use this to prepare for IELTS or TOEFL?
Yes — it helps you understand your current level and identify weak areas to focus on. However, IELTS and TOEFL have their own formats, so you should also practise with official materials.
Do I get a certificate?
No. This is a free practice tool, not an official exam. You receive an instant score and CEFR level estimate with a breakdown of your performance in each section.
How long does the test take?
About 10 minutes. There are 40 multiple-choice questions and no time limit, so you can take as long as you need.
